Bring the Family: Kids Play Free at all 21 Founders Group International Golf Courses
Golf has enjoyed a boom in recent years as new players have flocked to courses across the nation, but even when the game is thriving, Founders Group International (FGI) and the Myrtle Beach community always have golf’s long-term growth in mind.
All 21 FGI courses are participants in Myrtle Beach’s ever popular “Kids Play Free” program, an initiative that allows children 16 years of age and younger to play for free when accompanied by a paying adult. Kids Play Free is at its zenith during the summer months when families, who flock to the area for a beach vacation, look to make memories away from the sand and surf.
FGI’s family of courses include Pine Lakes, Grande Dunes and the Palmetto and PineHills layouts at Myrtlewood, all of which are located within a couple miles of the beach, making them easy to access for parents who want to foster a child’s love for golf.
Pine Lakes, the area’s first course and the birthplace of Sports Illustrated, oozes history. The clubhouse is part of the National Register of Historic Places and the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame is located in a courtyard just off the 14th tee, adding to the charm of a day at “The Granddaddy.”
Grande Dunes, which includes five holes along the Intracoastal Waterway, is one of the best public courses in South Carolina, providing an opportunity for Mom and Dad to play a bucket list layout with their kids.
Located in the heart of town, Myrtlewood offers two player friendly layouts that are ideal places for young players to enjoy the game without the pressure that comes with forced carries and a surplus of water.
Families that like to stay along the South Strand and Pawleys Island in particular, will enjoy short drives to layouts such as Tradition Club, Willbrook Plantation, Litchfield Country Club, Founders Club, TPC Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Plantation (the Jack Nicklaus design will be closed during the summer of 2023 from a greens, bunkers and clubhouse renovation project).
If a “golf family” vacations anywhere along the Grand Strand, a FGI course that relishes the opportunity to host parents and children is never far away.
(Kids play free is on a 1 to 1 basis, 1 free child 16 or under per paying adult)
