So few courses provide freedom off the tee. Even fewer do so while combining the luxury and overall feel of Tradition Golf Club in Pawleys Island.
Set amid some of the nicest golf courses the Grand Strand has to offer, Tradition holds its place in the Waccamaw Golf Trail with a creative yet simple design that focuses on pristine surfaces, protected greens and a challenging yet playable round unlike many of its regional competitors. Well-known Florida course architect Ron Garl accomplished just that when one of his only designs in the Carolinas was opened in 1996.
Previously named the South Carolina Golf Course of the Year and routinely honored by regional and national publications, Tradition complements a par-72 round with its Mega Practice Complex, one that has since been copied at other courses around the United States. With upward of 6,875 yards awaiting players, that practice facility is the perfect warm up before attacking the course.
“The Tradition has an outstanding range and practice area so you can get warmed up before or work on your game after. The design is a great assortment of slight doglegs and the holes set up to your eye from the tee. You could play Tradition every day and not get bored or tired of playing this layout.”

“No worries about a bad lie here. Course is immaculate. Everything down in Pawley’s Island is beautiful, but that usually comes with condescension and outrageous prices. Not here! Staff was supremely kind and helpful. Probably the quickest round I’ve ever played too. Pace was never an issue, and my cousin and I were paired with seniors. Even stopping at every hole for them to tee from the golds, we never had a group waiting on us. Cart has a cooler bolted right on to the side, so it keeps your brews cold and you don’t have to deal with a cart filled with water and mess.”
